We love to keep it positive here at Get Up And Do Something, but that pesky little truth about life is that sometimes negative things happen. There are a lot of things outside of our control that positive thinking can’t always fix, so I wanted to share a different kind of post today:
Tips for Healing a Hurt Heart
– Let yourself cry when and as much as you need to
-Take a personal/sick day (mental health IS health!)
-Make sure you are eating and drinking. Focus on comforting, easy to digest meals like veggie stews and drink even more water than normal
-Keep a journal on hand. As you are processing something negative, it’s so helpful to write things out and the need can strike at random
-Take walks. Everyday, multiple times a day if you need. Getting some physical activity outdoors will help you to process and clear your head
-Keep your favorite show or movie on in the background (having comforting noises really helps to calm your system – I put Friends or The Office on)
-Focus on self-care. Do that face mask, paint your nails, take a yoga class, anything that makes you feel beautiful and nurtured
-When you do go out, get dolled up or wear the outfit that makes you feel hot. A boost in confidence goes a long way in times like this
-Surround yourself with people you trust and bring you comfort
-Take time to sit on your words and intentions before speaking from a purely emotional place – let your rational mind catch up to your emotions, you’ll be grateful in the long run
Now, this is the hardest part: remember this is not forever. It might feel awful right now but it will subside and you will heal. You deserve wonderful things in this life and this might be an opportunity for growth (which we know is rarely easy), but it’s okay if you don’t see that yet. The only way to get through it is to get through it, but it is so much better to sit with the hard feelings than bottle them up. Remind yourself how special and important you are – you will get through this.
