Who doesn’t enjoy a nice sweet treat to start off their day? I know I do! Donuts and pastries are an easy and delicious morning meal. It’s very tempting to go for your morning coffee and pick up a sweet treat too! However, sugar in the morning is not great for you. Here are some reasons why and examples of low sugar breakfast options!
Why It’s Good to Avoid Sugar in the Morning
Eating sugar-filled foods in the morning will spike your blood sugar levels. This causes the body to start to crash just a few hours later. It’s what’s known as a “sugar crash”. During this crash, your blood sugars are very low and causes you to become very hungry. You crave more sugar to get your levels back up to the crazy spike from the morning. Sugar in the morning will create a vicious cycle of continuously craving more sugar. To avoid that, avoid sugar in the morning!

Moderation is Key
Don’t get me wrong, I love a sweet treat as much as the next person. However, moderation is key. Treat yourself once in a while, but try to avoid eating too much sugar, especially in the morning. If you’re going to have a sweet treat, save it for a little later in the day to avoid having too much sugar and crashing!
