Tips for helping your child avoid sugary beverages
- Breastfeeding meets all the necessary nutritional needs of babies up to 4-6 months of age. Cow’s milk is not acceptable as a main drink for infants under 12 months.
- Milk is important for children to get the calcium they need to build strong bones! It is recommended that children should drink whole cow’s milk from 1 to 2 years old and low-fat milk for 2 plus.
- Water is always the best beverage for children. This should be the drink that parents promote throughout the day.
- One cup a day of diluted 100% fruit juice is a good source of vitamins for children ages 1 through 5. Refrain from giving children carbonated sodas, sports drinks, tea, coffee, and other sugar- sweetened beverages.
