Movement can take many forms, from a morning walk around the neighborhood to a few minutes of stretching between tasks. Some days you may have 30 minutes to spare, while other days, fitting in five minutes feels like an accomplishment. The Movement Menu Challenge takes the pressure off by giving you options instead of rules. The goal is simple: choose the type and amount of movement that fits your day.

Pick Your Movement “Appetizer”

Start small with a 5-minute movement option. Take a quick walk, stretch, dance to a song, or do a few bodyweight exercises. Five minutes may not feel like a traditional workout, but short bursts of movement can help break up long periods of sitting and get your body moving.

Order a 10-Minute Option

Have a little more time? Try a 10-minute movement break. Walk around your neighborhood, follow a short workout video, practice some yoga, or take the stairs when you have the opportunity. 10 minutes can be an easy way to add activity to a busy day without needing to completely rearrange your schedule.

Go for the 20-Minute Special

A 20-minute option gives you more time to build movement into your day. Try a brisk walk, bike ride, dance session, strength routine, or another activity you genuinely enjoy. Choosing something you like can make movement feel less like another task on your to-do list and more like time for yourself.

Save Room for the 30-Minute Entrée

Have more time and energy? Try the 30-minute option. You could take a longer walk, visit a local trail, swim, play a recreational sport, or complete a workout. Longer sessions can be great, but they aren’t the only way to make movement part of your day.

Choose What Sounds Good

The best part of a movement menu is that you can order something different every day. Your choice can depend on your schedule, energy, weather, mood, or simply what sounds fun. One day might call for a peaceful walk, while another might be better suited for dancing around your living room.

Make Movement Work for Your Life

A challenge should leave you feeling encouraged rather than guilty if you miss a day or choose the five-minute option. Movement is about supporting your well-being, not checking a box perfectly. Short walks, stretching, household activities, active hobbies, and planned workouts can all contribute to a more active day.

Try the Movement Menu for One Week

For the next seven days, choose at least one movement option from the menu each day. Keep track of what you chose and how you felt afterward. You may discover that having choices makes it easier to stay active, and that movement can fit into your life in more ways than you expected.
