Finding the right motivation and enjoyment can make or break your workout session! This is something that I am still consistently working on, as I am in the process of becoming more consistent with finding physical movement that makes me happy and improve my self-esteem.
Find a comfy/cute workout outfit
Ensure that you’re wearing an outfit that you feel comfortable and breathable in during your workout, especially when you’re stretching pre- or post workout! Some of my favorite things to wear to the gym are an oversize tee shirt, gym leggings/shorts, or a matching set! When wearing these, I feel like I have a lot of space and freedom to move around without feeling tight around in certain areas of my body.
Have a reliable water bottle
Having a reusable water bottle is recommended so that you’re able to carry it around wherever you go! Especially when on a treadmill, you want to make sure you have easy access to sip water through a straw while running or doing inclines! My favorite purchase recently has been my Owala water bottle. Not only it is super convenient to carry around wherever I go, but you can either sip your water through the straw, or drink from the larger opening when you feel the need to chug the water and hydrate yourself!
Have a variety of options!
Having a variety of workouts in your routine can allow you to explore and find new ways to enjoyably move your body. Following workout influencers and watching new workout videos on YouTube allowed me to be more opened to different exercises, and has made me expand and work out different muscles in my body! Working out should not be a chore, but rather be something to look forward to in order to optimize your physical and mental well-being!
Designated Workout Playlist
I cannot be the only one who is not a big fan of the generic music at the gym. It’s a good idea to have a few playlists designated for those workouts! I have Spotify, and I really enjoy the playlists they create for you based on the music and artists you tend to listen to in their algorithm. The app created playlists I use regularly at the gym such as “hype workout playlist,” and “throwback workout playlist,” for some early, hype 2010 jams! I recommend using that tool, or create your own playlist if that’s more enjoyable for you to boost the motivation!
Bring a friend!
I personally like to do workouts on my own as I really feel the most in-tuned with my body, but if you like to have someone with you during workouts, ask a friend if they would like to do a workout or try a new movement! You never know, but this could be a new weekly activity that you both enjoy and make time for during your leisure!
