In today’s busy world, exercise often takes a back seat to school, work and daily responsibilities. Yet, staying active boosts health, strengthens family bonds and teaches the whole family lifelong habits. The best part? Staying active doesn’t have to be expensive, complicated or one-size-fits all. With simple, adaptable activities, families can find fun ways to move more!
Simple Indoor Activities
Fitness does not need to be costly or require special equipment. Try freeze dance, household scavenger hunts or build simple obstacles courses with pillows and household items. Not your thing ? Instead, your family can utilize e- resources, like streaming free yoga or dance videos. Families can also consider community resources such as exercise classes offered through the YMCA, Libraries, Faith-based centers and Rec Centers.
Moving Outdoors
Walking is one of the easiest and affordable ways to exercise. Family walks in the neighborhood, park or local trail are great options to consider. To keep kids more engaged, add smaller games or activities during your walk such as I-spy, scavenger hunts or even spotting colorful leaves and animals. If you rather stay in your own backyard, jump rope, balloon tosses and any form of backyard sports is an easy but fun option for the whole family.
Making it Stick
Family fitness doesn’t need to be costly or complex, what matters is finding fun, flexible activities that fit your family’s needs. By incorporating movement and exercise as a part of everyday life, families can enjoy better health while creating fun memories that will last a lifetime.
