When Life Knocks You Down…Stand Back Up

May 17, 2019 //  by Angelina Seeney

Last week was one of “those” weeks. Nothing was going my way. Back luck was my middle name. Life just kept knocking me down. Check it out…

Hurdle #1:

Hanging out with my roommate in the kitchen. Making dinner, laughing and talking about the weekend. So I go to open my kitchen cabinet and a tub of peanut butter falls out…DIRECTLY into the matcha tea my roommate just made. Matcha. Went. EVERYWHERE. All over my face. In my hair. Inside our cabinet. On floor and countertop. All of the ceiling. It was like a murder scene. Not to mention, the tea was hot. So it kinda burned my skin. Ouch. Thankfully, we were able to have a good laugh about it. On the grand scheme of things, no big deal right?

Hurdle #2:

Flash forward to the next morning. Stopped by Starbucks for an Iced Americano (highly recommended if you’ve never tried one). Decided to buy a new reusable iced coffee mug. Dummy Angelina decides to buy one made of glass. Now, glass and clumsy people like me don’t mesh well. So I get into my office and somehow manage to knock over my coffee. Coffee not only went all over my desk, but on the floor as well. And the worst part was that my new glass cup broke and cut my palm. Okay life. You win this round.

Hurdle #3:

So THEN the shirt I was wearing (which was longer in the back than in the front) dipped into the toilet. G-R-O-S-S. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a change of clothes and I had class in 20 minutes. Fortunately, my friend had clothes in her car she was planning to get rid of. So I walked off with a clean (and not wet) shirt. HA!

Hurdle #4:

Yup! The madness continues. Asked my roommate to wash one of my jackets along with her laundry. Little did I know, I left a chapstick in one of the pockets. It melted and got alllllll over her clothes. I. Felt. HORRIBLE. How could I have been so careless? Thankfully, she was able to get the stains out with good old dish soap. Phew!

Moral of the Story:

So other than the fact that I am a complete klutz (my parents call me “destructor” because of my clumsiness), what’s the moral of my story? Basically, life throws you curve balls sometimes. Bad things happen, you mess up, nothing goes your way. However, your response to those curve balls will determine your success. You can decide to let those hurdles ruin your day, or you can jump over them. In my case, I didn’t let those hurdles ruin my day. I picked myself up, laughed, and moved on.

So the choice is yours: the next time life throws you a curve ball, will you strike out? Or will you hit the ball out of the park?
