When trying to eat healthy, it’s hard to give up those pantry favorites. However, with just a few smart swaps, you can cut added sugars and unhealthy ingredients while still enjoying all the flavor you love. Making small changes to your diet can lead to big improvements in mood and overall health, benefits I’ve experienced firsthand!
Here are five easy food swaps that will still have you satisfied at meal time:
1.Sour Cream for Plain Greek Yogurt
Plain Greek yogurt tastes almost identical to sour cream. By making this swap you will not only add extra protein to your dish, but cut down on those unnecessary fats.
2.Store Bought Dressing for Homemade
The dressing you find on the shelves in the grocery store have way more ingredients than you may think. Instead, try making your own with a few simple ingredients like olive oil, vinegar, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Making your own will allow you to have less saturated and trans fat with no sneaky added sugar.
3.Traditional Peanut Butter for Natural
You may not realize that peanut butter can have a lot of added sugar and processed oils. For a more simple route, look for brands that only list peanuts and salt as their main ingredients.
4. Butter for Olive Oil
Butter is high in saturated fat, while olive oil is full of heart healthy monounsaturated fats. Making this swap allows you to cook with added benefits like antioxidants that reduce inflammation in the body and none of that not so good stuff.
5.White Bread for Whole Grain
White bread is stripped from all its natural fiber, nutrients and often times, flavor! Whole grain bread adds fiber, vitamins and minerals into your diet. This will help you feel fuller longer and help aid in digestion too.
Give it a Try…
These simple swaps let you enjoy flavorful meals while feeling your best. Next time you cook, give them a try. Small changes like these can really make a big difference in your overall wellness. Who knows maybe you will like them more than you think!
