The Benefits Of Having A Workout Partner

Fit female fitness model jogging along ocean with her partner

June 23, 2022 //  by Kate Howland

One great way to stick to consistent physical activity is to have a friend join you. Over 80% of Americans do not get their recommended amount of exercise. However, having a friend join in on your exercise can be beneficial in order to help you reach your fitness goals and stay consistent. Why work out with a buddy?

It’s fun!

When working out with a friend, you may find yourselves laughing and catching up on life. This way, you and your partner are enjoying yourselves while also getting a great workout in! By having fun, you will dread working out less and see it less of a chore, adding to your consistency.

Hold each other accountable.

Having a partner can help with holding each other accountable. If you feel unmotivated, your partner could be a great support system in getting you on the right track, and vice versa. By not wanting to let down your partner by skipping a workout session, the need to stay consistent increases.

It’s safer.

It is completely understandable to not want to go for a walk or run alone if your workout environment is not the safest, but having a partner provides safety and comfort. In weightlifting, you and your partner can act as spotters for each other to ensure both of you have a safe and productive experience.

Celebrate the wins together!

Sometimes it feels way better having a friend celebrate your accomplishments with you. It’s even better if you and your partner share a common goal. For example, losing a few pounds before the summer, completing a 5k run, beating running times, etc. Enjoying successes together can make things fun and continue to motivate you both on your future goals.
