Making Fitness Fun: Smart Watch Competitions

Woman Exercising In Autumn Woodland Looking At Activity Tracker On Smart Watch

February 1, 2025 //  by Emily Hayburn

Smart watches have become very popular over the years. Just wearing one can motivate a person to stay active and move throughout the day. I bought an Apple Watch a few years ago and I absolutely love it. I find it so fun to close my rings. I try to close them 5 days a week. However, eventually the novelty of a smart watch can wear off. Luckily, smart watches such as Apple’s allow you to challenge friends on it. It adds extra motivation and makes for a great friendly competition.

Make Workouts More Fun

Exercise isn’t always fun for everyone. Sometimes they feel like a drag. However, if you make it a game, workouts can be more fun. Friendly competitions, whether you win or lose the competition, you are improving your fitness and health, so you win regardless!

Stay Motivated and Hold Each Other Accountable

The hardest part about staying active is staying consistent. Competing with friends will hold both you and your friends accountable. On Apple watches, the competitions last a week. Throughout the week you can see how many points each person has so far. You can talk to your friends to motivate them, and the watch will remind them to exercise as well.

Inspire Each Other

Not only can you see how many points each person has through the competition, but you can also see what types of exercises your competitor is doing. You can learn new exercises and try new things that you see. Also, you can see your friends reaching their goals and be inspired to set and reach your own goals.

There have been many times where I’ve found myself in a funk and don’t have the motivation to workout. The same has happened to my friends as well. We always decide to start a fitness competition to help us get back into exercising and it has truly worked! I definitely recommend giving these friendly competitions a try.
