Rainbow Workouts: Move in Color as Spring Approaches

Double rainbow from the cliff of North Cape in Mageroya island, the most northerly point of Europe, Norway

March 19, 2026 //  by Jillian Orellano

As the days grow longer and the first signs of spring begin to appear, it’s the perfect time to shake off the winter blues and refresh your fitness routine. “Rainbow Workouts” are a fun and creative way to get moving, combining bright colors with energizing exercises. Not only does this approach make exercise more enjoyable, it also motivates you to build healthy habits as the weather warms up. Using color as inspiration adds variety, making each workout feel new and exciting.

Turn Each Color into a Move

The concept is simple: assign a movement to each color of the rainbow and move through the sequence. For example:

  • Red: Jumping jacks to get your heart pumping
  • Orange: Squats to strengthen your lower body
  • Yellow: High knees to boost endurance
  • Green: Lunges for balance and stability
  • Blue: Plank holds to engage your core
  • Indigo: Side stretches for flexibility
  • Violet: Arm circles to improve mobility

You can create your own “rainbow circuit,” repeat the sequence for a full-body workout, or even challenge a friend to see who can complete the most colorful repetitions. The variety keeps your brain engaged while working multiple muscle groups at once.

Add Music for Extra Motivation

Pair your rainbow workout with an upbeat playlist to make movement even more enjoyable. Music naturally boosts energy and mood, helping you stay motivated through each set. Choose songs that make you feel lively, playful, or even a little silly, because when exercise is fun, you’re more likely to stick with it consistently.

Seasonal Benefits for Body and Mind

Rainbow workouts are more than just a fun idea, they’re effective. By combining cardio, strength, flexibility, and balance, you get a full-body session that supports heart health, strength and overall fitness. Plus, colorful, themed workouts can improve mental health, reducing stress and boosting mood. As spring approaches, incorporating outdoor movement can amplify these benefits, letting you enjoy fresh air, sunlight, and the seasonal renewal all around you.

Time to Get Started

No special equipment is needed, just a bit of space and your favorite playlist. Whether you’re exercising alone, with friends, or even virtually, rainbow workouts offer a motivating and refreshing way to stay active this spring. Embrace the season, energize your body, and make your workouts as colorful as the blooms around you.
